The Unknown: A TV Play

The Unknown: A TV Play Presented as a Workshop

I am proud to announce that I'm helping my fiancée Tessa Martin produce her latest project "THE UNKNOWN: A TV PLAY" which will take place at the Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church on the Lower East Side in mid - September. First, I helped her apply for a grant from the LMCC and they were able to bring in partial funding. We are fundraising and raising community awareness right now.

There's a lot to say about this play. They're going to present it as an actor's television workshop. Movements of the actors and camera will be choreographed but at the same time the actors will have liberty to move as the moment strikes, and the camera will follow. The basic idea is to follow the string of action through the play with a single camera, cinema verité or documentary style.

St. Augustine's has a huge room that will be turned into a kind of theater in the round. The concept is experimental and exciting and the cast and crew are really excited to bring this to production.

What's the story about?

A Bright-eyed, mixed-race, and determined New York Actor, Betsy dreams of becoming a star after graduating from college but the land of make believe's catch-22 system may keep her spinning on the other side of the looking glass as... THE UNKNOWN.

Prepare to tumble down the rabbit hole with The Unknown, a unique theatrical event staged as a live television series. This innovative production combines drama, comedy, and live music to tell the story of Betsy, a talented, mixed-race actress navigating the treacherous waters of New York City's television and film industry.

A Modern-Day Alice Through the Looking Glass:

Inspired by Lewis Carroll's classic tale, The Unknown follows Betsy as she confronts the harsh realities of the industry. Juggling survival jobs, industry politics, and her own dreams, Betsy's journey is a relatable one for anyone who's ever felt like an outsider. This three-episode series, filmed in front of a live audience, utilizes the black box theater setting to create a transformative experience. Each episode will feature a new set design and live music performed by talented students from NYC public school music programs.

Once Betsy traverses the threshold of the television screen, all bets are off!
